The reliable method is to check the real Canadian television before concluding that an app is available. An Android app, mobile listing or web page is not evidence that a native webOS television app exists.

Before installing an app on an LG television, identify the complete model and webOS version. In Canada, also confirm that LG Services Country matches the television’s legitimate use. Connect the TV by Wi-Fi or Ethernet, then install the software update offered to that exact model. From Home, open Apps, or LG Content Store on some older generations, search for the application, and confirm its publisher before installation. If it does not appear, an Android APK will not work on webOS. Recheck the model, region, webOS version, and publisher support instead. Free only the storage you need, and remember that reinstalling an app can erase local data. Test the Magic Remote actually supplied, because its buttons and pairing steps vary. If a problem remains, Official OTT recommends checking the app, network, software, and account before any factory reset. Finish with four checks: picture, sound, captions, and remote.
1. Identify the exact LG television
Record:
- the complete model code, including its suffix;
- the year or series when known;
- the software or webOS version;
- LG Services Country;
- available storage;
- the remote model actually in use.
On many recent models, television information is under All Settings → Support. Paths vary by generation, so use LG support for the exact model whenever this guide’s generic labels differ from the screen.
webOS is not Android TV or Google TV. Use our compatible-device guide for cross-platform comparison; this page owns the LG-specific workflow.

2. Confirm the legitimate Canadian configuration
Check that LG Services Country reflects Canada when the TV is legitimately used in Canada. On webOS 6.0 and newer generations, LG generally places this setting under All Settings → General → System → Location. Older models may place Location directly under General.
The services country affects displayed apps and services. Changing it does not prove licensing, compatibility or publisher support. A television purchased for another region may also retain hardware or software limitations specific to its original market.
Keep a simple compatibility record: model, webOS version, services country, exact app name, publisher and verification date. That is more precise than writing “works on LG TV.”

3. Prepare the network and software
Before installation:
- Connect the television by Wi-Fi or, when the exact model supports it, wired Ethernet.
- Confirm that the TV reports a working Internet connection.
- Open Software Update and install the version offered to that exact model.
- Enable automatic updates only if that behaviour suits the household.
- Accept only the agreements needed for the smart functions you intend to use.
- Prepare an LG account if the current store workflow requires one.
On many recent models, software update is under All Settings → Support → Software Update. The path can differ, and LG advises following model-specific instructions.
If Wi-Fi is unstable, compare a temporary real Ethernet connection before immediately changing DNS or resetting the television. Our buffering guide helps separate the home network, Internet access and app layers.

4. Install through Apps or LG Content Store
The current general workflow is:
- Press Home on the LG remote.
- Open Apps on recent versions or LG Content Store on some older generations.
- Select Search.
- Enter the exact application name.
- Confirm the publisher and stated compatibility.
- Select Install.
- After installation, select Launch.
If the application does not appear, do not try to install an Android APK: it is not a webOS application. Recheck the model, region, webOS version and current publisher listing. The compatible-app guide provides the broader validation method.

5. Check storage and manage applications
A memory warning or an app that will not start does not automatically mean the television is defective. Finish pending updates, perform a normal restart, then remove only identified unused applications.
Deletion methods differ by webOS generation. Some interfaces use Edit App List and a trash icon; older generations may show an X after a long press. Some system apps cannot be removed.
Deleting or reinstalling an app can erase local data and require sign-in again. Record recovery information before acting, but never expose a password, activation value or QR code.

6. Validate the LG remote or Magic Remote
Test the controls that are actually present:
- directional navigation;
- Wheel or OK;
- Back;
- Home;
- play and pause;
- text entry;
- visible keyboard focus;
- caption and audio-track access.
On many Magic Remotes, pressing Wheel OK registers the remote again. Unpairing and pairing combinations vary by model and year, however. Do not publish one universal pairing procedure without identifying the exact remote.
A web page that is difficult to control is not a substitute for a supported TV application. The television browser can be limited by memory, supported web technology and model age.
7. Protect accounts and personal information
Use a unique LG-account password and stronger account protection where offered. Never publish:
- a sign-in QR code;
- a personal email address;
- a Wi-Fi password;
- an activation code;
- a complete serial number;
- a screen or reflection exposing private material.
Sign out before selling, donating or recycling the television. A factory reset can erase accounts, applications, network configuration, accessibility and picture settings; document recovery before using it. See our security and privacy guide.

8. Troubleshoot by layer
| Symptom | Reversible checks | Prepared last resort |
|---|---|---|
| App not found | Model, Canada, webOS, exact name and publisher | Supported external player |
| Installation fails | Internet, agreements, LG account, storage, update | LG support with exact message |
| One app crashes | Relaunch, update, publisher status, documented reinstall | Publisher or LG support |
| Every app fails | Network, router, date/time, software, another device | Prepared network reset |
| Television is slow | Finish updates, close, restart, free known storage | Assess remaining model support |
| Remote is unstable | Batteries, line of sight, interference, model, documented pairing | LG support |
Avoid a factory reset until the failing layer has been identified.
9. Use an external device when appropriate
If the required application is unavailable on the exact television, or the integrated platform no longer receives the necessary updates, a supported HDMI player can separate the display from the app platform.
Verify Canadian app availability, HDMI ports, power, audio, remote and supported resolution. This is not a method for bypassing a region, account or content rights. Compare our Apple TV, Android TV and Samsung TV guides when useful.
10. Perform four final checks
Using content you are authorized to use, test separately:
- Picture — sharpness, format, motion and uninterrupted playback.
- Sound — level, synchronization and selected output.
- Captions — activation, language, legibility and timing.
- Remote — play, pause, navigation, back and clean exit.
Setup is complete only when all four pass in the real room and on the real household network.
Frequently asked questions
Do all LG Smart TVs have the same app catalogue?
No. LG documents differences by country, model and webOS version.
Can I install an Android APK on webOS?
Not through the normal supported workflow. An Android APK is not a webOS application. Use Apps or LG Content Store.
Why did an application disappear?
The publisher may change support by model, region or version. Check the current listing against the exact television.
Should I change LG Services Country?
Use the legitimate Canadian configuration. Changing region does not automatically create compatibility or usage rights.
Is the Magic Remote identical for every LG television?
No. Shape, buttons, features and pairing procedures vary by generation and television.
