Do not look for an Ethernet port on the 64 GB model. Check the product record, box, or physical port layout before buying a network cable. Earlier generations may also use a different remote, port layout, or feature set.
3. Connect power and HDMI correctly
- Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port on Apple TV 4K.
- Connect the other end to an available HDMI input on the television.
- Connect the power cord to Apple TV and then to an electrical outlet.

Ethernet can reduce wireless variability, but it does not automatically increase the speed supplied by the internet connection. Wi-Fi may be fully suitable when coverage is strong, the band is not congested, and Apple TV is located in a well-served part of the room.

Automatic updates can also be enabled on the same screen. Menus can change with tvOS, so confirm the version being used before relying on an older screenshot.
7. Install an app from the App Store
Open the App Store from the Home Screen, choose Search, and review the complete app page. Check the developer, description, screenshots, ratings, accessibility features, and privacy information. Select Get for a free app or the displayed purchase option for a paid app.
An app’s presence on iPhone, Android TV, or Fire TV does not prove that a tvOS version exists. Availability can also vary by country, region, hardware, and Apple Account. Confirm the app on the exact Apple TV configured for Canada before recommending it.

8. Review permissions and protect account details
At first launch, an app may request access to tracking, location, photos, Bluetooth, microphone, camera, Apple Home, or media. In tvOS 26, these controls are available under Settings > General > Privacy & Security.
Grant only the access needed for the function being used. Never expose the following in a capture or support request:
- Apple Account email;
- password or verification code;
- QR code;
- private network name;
- IP or MAC address;
- personal recommendation or notification;

Start with the simplest reversible checks.
If the screen stays black
- confirm that the television is on the matching HDMI input;
- firmly reconnect both ends of the HDMI cable;
- try another HDMI port;
- try another compatible cable;
- temporarily bypass a switch, soundbar, or receiver;
- check Apple TV power and the status light;
- review dynamic-range and frame-rate matching if the display flickers during content changes.
If playback stops or loses quality
- confirm that other devices can reach the internet;
- review
Settings > Network; - update the app and retest the same content;
- compare Wi-Fi and Ethernet only when the model has the port;

Does every Apple TV 4K have Ethernet?
No. On the third generation (2022), only the 128 GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet configuration has Gigabit Ethernet. The 64 GB configuration uses Wi-Fi.
Is the HDMI cable included?
No. Apple states that an HDMI cable is required and sold separately. Match the cable to the functions supported by the television and any intermediate equipment.
