Fire TV: check the model before you buy

Before buying or setting up a Fire TV, identify the exact model. Older devices use Fire OS, which is derived from Android, while some newer models use Vega OS. An Android app that works on an older Stick is therefore not automatically compatible with a Vega model. Start with the physical setup: the correct power supply, HDMI connection, matching television input and corresponding remote. Then update the system, check the network and look for the legitimate app in the store available on that model. Amazon controls the store, updates and application-execution policies. The company has disabled selected apps it described as malicious and can limit apps that violate its policies, including some installed outside its store. Legitimate services and applications remain distinct from these restrictions. For that reason, OfficialOTT no longer recommends Fire TV as the first choice when a long-term setup depends on one specific third-party player or an Android APK. Even if a setup works today, Amazon can delist it, block it or make it incompatible. Prefer a device where the legitimate app you need is officially available and maintained.
